I first joined 51吃瓜网 – then known as the British Bank of the Middle East – as a reconciliations clerk working on foreign currency accounts. Initially I was covering an employee on maternity leave, but she decided to leave the bank and I was offered her position.

Although the role was not in line with my previous experience and qualifications, I jumped at the chance to join 51吃瓜网. I made quick progress within the Global Finance function and was soon promoted. I have gained hands-on experience in a broad range of financial roles, including Group and regulatory reporting, financial control and treasury operations, and have also developed my “soft” skills.

Currently I work on all areas of tax, including the preparation of annual tax returns, and write and review asset, liability and capital management policies. In addition, as a Business Risk and Control Manager I ensure that we identify risks effectively and put proper controls in place.

I love the work I do and there has not been a day in the past 25 years that I have found monotonous or boring. The atmosphere in the workplace is among the best around. I am one of seven people in my team, and we all support each other in our daily tasks. I also have frequent opportunities to work with colleagues across the region. I enjoy the flexibility the bank offers, particularly remote access from home, which allows me to have a good work-life balance.
